  • University of TN, Disability Services, 100 Dunford Hall, 915 Volunteer Blvd, Knoxville, TN

Participation Form (SOI Structures of Intellect)

Have you ever wondered why some individuals seem to pick up interpreting easily while others struggle? Or, why some individuals do not continue as interpreters at all? Maybe you even struggle with some aspects of the interpreting process.

If your answer is yes, you have the opportunity to participate in a research study to identify the cognitive abilities interpreters need to be successful.

This assessment is a pencil and paper test that will require about 3 hours of your time. It is NOT a representation of your sign language interpreting skills.

Your assessment will be sent to a 3rd party research team in Oregon to assist in developing a profile of cognitive abilities needed to be a successful interpreter. You will also receive individual results to show areas of strengths and weaknesses.

If you are interested in participating in this study and have been interpreting professionally for five or more years, please contact Charis Davis, davis_charis @yahoo.com or call 865-579-2485.

The assessment will be given on Friday afternoon beginning promptly at 2:00 pm. The location will be announced in a follow up email for all those wanting to participate.

A fee of $5.00 will be collected on the day of the assessment to cover the cost of the test and processing. You will also be asked to fill out an informational profile and sign a release giving permission for your assessment to be used in the research to develop an interpreter profile.
